Love's Philosopher's Confusion

CDC on love:
like peanut butter on pickles?
I philosophy we used to say:
Better to be interesting than right.
How about neither?
Another loveless philosopher.

4:00 AM Revelation

I wake up in thought
I am actually able
to solve my problems
but only at 4:00 am
I wish to arrange solutions
at 4:00 am
oh yeah, I can't.
Now back to sleep in hope
of remembering the resolution
7:00 am
Hail Mary, full of grace....

Zoo's Dream

As a child of 5
the dream is not of
Disneyland or a castle
or even a brincalina
It is: to again sleep
between her parents
with a roach coming
out of the vent
above the bed.

Uncle Joe

Uncle Joe is
not really my uncle--
But he should be.

King Lear like
except his memory
is not failing him.

3 daughters
whom he raised well.
Yet their kingdoms
are elsewhere

One comes now
when he needs
them.

Others disappear
in the Minnesota
lake kingdom.

Family has eluded
both of us--

I sit alone:
while he is no
king
I am the jester,
the fool,
coxcombed

Spanish pre-tenses
Si hable espanol.

I am not trying to be something
that I am not.

I am more bawdy

Did I tell you I am really Injun?

The Muse Returns

The Muse returns
only when there
is not other hope.

Suicide is too hard:
let me try this first.

Christmas 2008

I wake up--
to the light
through the jealousy blinds--
light can pass in the morning--
Alone, naked
drunk, blind
Absolute silence,
I read the clock radio: 8:00 am.

The First Mexican I Ever Met

Bisbee Mountain, sheep camp

The first Mexican I ever met said:

Tomorrow we cross the road.

Curley hair under a straw hat,

He drank hot tea

On my grandparents' ranch

With honey, milk, sugar

from the musical teapot that whistled

but Grandma never cleaned.

More tea?

Tomorrow we cross the road.

My grandparents used to travel

to the bullfights in Mexico City

with a guide doing all the driving

from Juarez in an open car.

Mr. Sheepherder, do you understand our difference?

Where have you gone?

Do you still drink tea and eat rustic stew or

Have you crossed the mythical country road

Like my own grandparents,

also humble rustic folk?

Tomorrow we all cross the road.
